We are a friendly group who get together for about eight mid-week evening sessions during the summer season. We usually race, but there are also opportunities for training and instruction. We are a ‘mixed ability’ group, with some very experienced sailors, some improvers and others who are relatively new to the sport. There is competition there if you want it, but also the chance to develop new skills or brush up some old ones.
Newcomers are most welcome to come along and will find us supportive and encouraging, with the emphasis definitely on having fun. It’s a great chance to get out there and enjoy sailing in a ‘no pressure’ atmosphere. The majority of us sail Toppers at the moment, but this may well change in the future and ladies are free to join in with any class of dinghy.
The season always kicks off in April with a popular social event, ‘Round the Buoys’, when we get together in the club launches to motor round the harbour, reacquaint ourselves with all the buoys and offer a toast to each one. We also enjoy socialising in the bar after our evening sailing and usually round off the season with a dinner at the club, a chance to award trophies and look back over the highlights of the year.
If you would like to find out more about the Ladies’ Sailing, then contact class captain Lisa Booth via the club office.
