What's Happening on the Water

The weather is still good and we are now into the Autumn Series which started on Saturday and Sunday last with good fleets out on both days. It was good to see two "Solo's" racing with Nick Woolley and John Ridout battling it out on Saturday with only one second splitting the two of them.
Monday evening saw the greatest activity of all, with Five Trophies on the line. It was the last series of the Evening Series for Class Four, Class 5 and Scow. We saw 26 boats competing in light airs that finally died, and most returned home with a tow in the dark. It may be considered that Navigation lights may be compulsory for the latter evening series races towards the end of year !!
The best turnout of Monday evening was 17 Scows Racing for the "Elbow Trophy" which was won by Graham Fairbrass on the last beat from Steve Doe who led most of the race After the race, 34 sat down to enjoy the Traditional "Elbow Trophy Dinner." Paul Moores gave a speech on the History of the race and presented the Trophy.
Chris Arnell (Our past Sailing Secretary) was waving our Flag at "Poole Week" and had an outstanding result, in winning convincingly the fast handicap class. Well done Chris.
This coming Sunday it is the start of the Harbour Interclub Series run by Mudeford and Highcliffe Sailing Clubs. The start is at 10.00 in the harbour, and will consist of two races. It has been agreed by all class captains that the first race on Sunday will count for the Autumn Series Sunday (2). I am pleased as we need a good turn of CSC Boats if we are to retain this Trophy, particularly as this weekend there is an open meeting near Oxford for our strong Finn Class. So I urge you to join in and compete against our local clubs. Hengisbury Head SC will be competing for the first time.
Once a suitable date is agreed for later this month, we will be carrying out on the water training for Race officers and assistants. Meanwhile, I thank those who have contacted me and who are willing to participate
