Class 4
Class 4 provides active and competitive dinghy racing for handicaps PY 1264 and below.
The most popular classes in Class 4 are the Finn, which sometimes has its own start, the Laser, Laser Radial and Laser 4.7.
The RS Aero 6, Europe, RS 200, Solo, Supernova and OK sailors provide great competition occasionally supported by an RS Aero 5 or 7. The Club owned 420 is primarily used for teaching Juniors how to trapeze and use a symmetrical spinnaker.
Racing is run by volunteers throughout the year starting with the Icebreaker Series in January to March followed by weekend and Weekday Series in the main season and then the Winter Harbour Series finishing with the Harry Shivers race on Boxing Day.
There are also many one-off trophy races as well as InterClub racing in the Harbour and occasionally in the Bay.
Participation in each event varies considerably depending upon temperature, wind and Start Day/Time. Some of the most intense racing is between October and March when there are fewer boats on moorings and in fairways and the water is higher!
Race results are published online using HalSail. Prize Givings and Social events are organised by the Class 4 Captain who also maintains communications via a WhatsApp Group and arranges the Class 4 AGM.
The club owns some dinghies for use by members. These provide a starting point for those looking to eventually own their own boat. The Club owns a modern fleet of RIBs and safety boats to monitor the activities on the water.
The Club expects all members to observe the Club Water Safety Policy and the RYA Racing Charter. Notices of Race, Sailing Instructions and Guidance for the Race Team can be found in Downloads
