CHRISTCHURCH HARBOUR ASSOCIATION JUNE UPDATE

We have added more buoys within the harbour for safety and agreed position of new buoys with Christchurch Rowing Club. You will probably have seen these downstream of Grimbury point (3) and another one to mark the port side of the channel near the Beach hut cafĂ©.

We have had a little more trouble than usual with buoys having moved over the last few weeks. This is because of exceptionally strong winds / high tides. To the best of my knowledge all are now located and positioned correctly.

Despite early thoughts, the channel situation seems quite good, we have had feedback from RNLI that it had shifted to the east after it being initially marked out. This has been checked out and the buoys adjusted.

There have been 4 New lights installed on a joint basis with Nyall Avery from Broad Construction. This should help all harbour users as they navigate the channel.

As I write I have been advised by Janie, our treasurer that only about 50% of the Corporate members have paid their CHA levy. Could those still to pay please make the payments please.

Our harbour Inspection was carried out by Trinity house, on the day the water level was very low, so it was conducted from land with Jason doing a sterling job. I was away at the time. Our thanks go to Hengistbury NCI for their assistance on the day. We have received a letter from Trinity House, and I am happy to report that they found us to be good and efficient order.

We have now distributed the agreed cheques to the RNLI and Hengistbury NCI, Hengistbury Outdoor Center and Highcliffe Lifesaving club. The donation were very generously received. We have been working quite closely with Christchurch Harbour Watch; I attend most of their meetings and we have agreed to purchase a few items for them to assist in promoting safety in the harbour for all users.

As always, any feedback or comments would be appreciated.

Regards Bill
