Ladies Sailing - Tuesday 8th JulyOur sparky ladies enjoyed an evening of racing last night. Although sunny, the wind once again was stronger than predicted, 18 knots with gusts in the mid twenties. Undeterred, 16 ladies took to the water in a mix of lasers, toppers, an aero and both the Clubs new Fusions. There were 4 capsizes before racing started and a number during the race. It was an impressive start with 8 boats crossing the line within a couple of seconds of the signal. After the race a bit of advice from our trusty RO (Ian Bray); pay attention to the flags, a number did an unnecessary third lap. The hooter cannot always be heard in strong winds, the flags always take precedence! After showers, a drink and a hot meal were much appreciated and thanks to all our helpers. Cruiser Evening Race - Tuesday 8th JulyGreat sail in the bay on Tuesday evening, 20-26 knots of breeze with sunshine , how strange is that. Luke and Becki Ridout set a great course with 2 laps for Class 1 and 1 lap for class 3. Carumba lead for the first lap but was eventually overhauled by LouLous with great racing across the whole fleet, little tussles going on all evening
Tim Reid in Carumba won on handicap, Mike Deval top of the Hawks. Pictures courtesy of Mrs Anderson.

British Finn National ChampionshipSix CSC Finn sailors attended the 2025 British Finn National Championships at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy last weekend. 33 Finns, including Australian and Dutch entries, competed in 8 races over three days in varying conditions. Day one brought glorious champagne sailing out in Weymouth Bay under the beautiful backdrop of the Jurassic Coast! There were three, one hour long, windward leeward races in 12 to 16 knots of breeze which put the sailors to the test. Great waves and excellent race management, followed by beer and pasta waiting for us ashore, ensured a lot of very happy sailors. The second day was much more challenging with gusts over 30 knots and several sailors opting to stay ashore. Only two races were sailed in Portland Harbour. Simon Percival completed both, but I (Russell), came back in with gear failure and Peter Blick retired after the first race. The conditions were very challenging with some extremely lively downwind sailing. On the third and final day, again in Portland Harbour, the wind eased initially with an enjoyable 12 to 15 knots in the first race, increasing to around 17+ knots for the third race of the day. Simon managed a win in race 6, along with top 10 results throughout the series, which secured him a very respectable 3rd overall. The event was very well run by WPNSA, with the annual AGM and Finn dinner on Saturday evening. The BFA events are always great fun in a very friendly but fiercely competitive fleet. If any of our CSC sailors would like to try a Finn and possibly come and join us in future, please do let me know.
