Ianthe Gaffers Trophy Race

The inaugural Ianthe Gaffers Trophy race held on Sunday was a great success. The race is designed to encourage the Club gaffers to sail and race together, and it was wonderful to see Galatea, a Lune Whammel sailed by Will Littleboy and Rob McAlone, and Godspeed, a Drascombe Longboat sailed by Aaron and Dennis Daly competing with Ianthe sailed by Owen Kerr, Lawrence Crapper, Simon Sullivan and Keith Barkway. Two Shrimpers couldnt make it due to last minute circumstances but hopefully see you next year. The weather and sea conditions were perfect with the gaffer fleet starting with the cruisers, making it an exciting start and an interesting and tactical race. The handicaps worked well as the overall finish was very close with Godspeed taking the honours, well done and congratulations team Daly, you will be the first name to appear on the Ianthe Gaffers Trophy which will be presented with due ceremony at the presentation evening on the 23rd October. A special thankyou to Becki and Luke Ridout the event race officers and Adrian Dwyer for his support rib, not only seeing Ianthe back to her mooring but carrying the photographic team of Martin and Hills Dancey and Graham Smith. We plan to make the Ianthe Gaffers Trophy race part of the cruiser race calendar next year, possibly with a series of races. Many thanks to everyone involved for your support. |
