"What's Happening on the Water"

Published 07:22 on 20 Sep 2018

We held our first Race Officer and Assistant on the water seminar last Sunday, and would like to thank all who turned up to receive a very professional briefing and on the water experience from Richard Phillips. There were a number of starts arranged near Mark 3 to enable the team to understand what is required for this essential duty. We will be arranging further on and off the water seminars. Dates to be arranged.

The Autumn Series 3 races took place in favourable winds on Saturday and Sunday last. Notable successes were Flynn Atkins who won on Sunday, Keith Barkway with another win in Class five, and Graham Fairbrass still in winning mode this season.
This Sunday there are two more races for the Harbour Interclub Series starting at 10.00. We are lying second at present and would urge you to compete, the more boats we have in the race, the more points we are likely to receive. Oppies to RS 300 are all welcome. I want to see us in first position as a club after the second race. The final two races are on October 7th. So please let's have a good turn this coming Sunday the 23rd. I am relying on you all. Thank you.
At the time of writing this piece, Jack Acton and Drew Barnes will be away competing in the first World and European Qualifier event this weekend in South Shields. We wish them well, and I will give an update of their experience next week.
If you have not already let me know, please contact me by email if you are looking to join our duty launches over the next couple of months. No experience necessary to be an assistant.
I am pleased to see many of you are signing up with Sally Davidson to achieve PB2 and Safety Boat courses. I am also pleased to see members enjoying sailing on the "Quest" with Ian Halliday our adult training guru.
If you are representing our club in an open meeting at home or abroad, or have an amusing story to tell us whilst afloat, please let me know, so we may share it with our members. The only amusing story I have this week is I broke my rudder last Sunday on a submerged object in the harbour. Well, that's the third thing after two broken masts.
See you on the Water………particularly Sunday…please !!!
