On The Water ............

The Sonata Open saw 5 boats competing in close racing and moderate to stiff winds, with a total of 10 races it was an energetic weekend for all competitors. At the end Tringa and Fiddlers Elbow were tied on 14 points with Fiddler's taking the trophy with 4 wins over Tringa's 3. On the previous Sunday the rest of the cruiser fleet joined the Sonata's for the Club's Olympic Day with 13 boats on the water - the class 3 trophy went to Chiron, Hawks trophy to 185 Hobby Hawk and the class one trophy to the Sonata Phoebe. Many thanks to all the race officers and assistants in particular the Yeabsley family. The cruiser autumn series got off to a brisk start this Sunday afternoon with 9 boats. Phoebe took first place on handicap holding fellow Sonata Fiddler's Elbow off by less than a minute in class 1. Enigma took first place in class 3.

Congratulations to our intrepid Tera sailor Will Sears for sailing to a blisteringly good 5th place in the regatta fleet at the RS Tera Nationals in Brightlingsea. As you will doubtless know, Will and his family have had a real year of it and we are super-proud of him too. Not only is 5th a fantastic achievement in a national regatta, but he was also awarded the 2019 Class Association trophy for Endeavour.

Congratulations also go to Francesca New who came 85th at The Late Summer Champs in Draycote - a great result as she was aiming for a top 100 place and this now puts her in a good position for Squad selection.

The club has been represented out on the various circuits again this week by Andy Rushworth in Abersoch, racing in the National OK championships and Drew Barnes in Weymouth gaining a very credible silver fleet 3rd at the helm of a 29er.

The dinghy autumn series has commenced at the club- a special mention to Abi Hayles winning on Sunday and thanks go to both Phil Acton and Richard Phillips stepping in to cover a 'no show' on Saturday and reported illness Sunday respectively. Without these people, racing would have been cancelled for a large fleet turning out- please double check the rosters and make sure you are aware of your upcoming duties.
