CSC Open Day

A very successful day enhanced by glorious weather. On behalf of the Club our thanks must go to Martin Dancey and his team who organised this very successful day. The Club welcomed the return of Geoff Holt MBE DL, who kindly agreed to open our event.

The club welcomed Lady Mayor Cllr Coulton to her first event since becoming the Mayor of Christchurch earlier in the week. The Wet Wheels team including one of their 7 boats - Wet Wheels Solent expertly skippered by Alan, were in attendance and did two trips taking groups of disabled for a fun trip out into the bay. Verwood Concert Brass livened up the day with some great live music and Stuart Percival expertly kept proceedings on track via his PA system.

Hospitality set the scene with the new pop-up bar in action for the first time. The club catering team did a great job serving BBQ food all day. Apparently 593 non-member visitors attended, which is significantly up on last time.

The day was well supported by local suppliers including electric marine outboards and the Dorset Police Marine Section. Also, experts from Sailability, National Coast Watch and the Christchurch Harbour Ornithological Group (CHOG).

Activities included the RNLI in action and a man overboard demonstration, mast climbing, servicing winches, rope skills and a very competitive dinghy rowing race the rower was blindfolded, guided by their crew.

A message form from Martin Dancey (CSC Open Day Co Ordinator):

Thanks to you all who volunteered to make this such a success. This event could not happen without you!

A message from other helpers on the day:

Always a pleasure to help you and such a keen group of enthusiastic members. Martin is a great asset and excellent organiser! Another very successful event.

Well done all.
