Studland Bay Marine Partnership | Dorset Coast Have Your Say

As you probably know, I sit on the Studland Bay Marine Partnership. After a considerable amount of work, and many meetings of the Partnership, the Consultation Survey for Boaters and the General Public to complete and give their input is now live.

While I have heard varying views from members and others on the necessity of anchoring restrictions in Studland Bay, back in 2019 the whole of Studland Bay was designated a Marine Conservation Zone and in June this year stage 2 of the no anchoring Zone came into force.

100 eco-moorings are currently proposed to be installed. Once installed, there will consideration as to whether more are needed in order to meet demand. Based on the results of this consultation Survey, the SBMP will decide how the eco-moorings will be managed and operated, hence the real importance of your participation, in order that your views can be considered.

While the survey will run until Fri 30 Sept 2022, we do ask members to respond as soon as possible.

Studland Bay is a pilot for other MCZ and VNAZ schemes throughout the UK and it is important that we gain as much input from the wider boating fraternity as possible. There are other MCZ areas nearby, with one stretching from The Needles to Cowes along the Isle of Wight coastline, and another from Sea view to Ventnor. We need to get the operation of Studland Bay right so that others may follow, which is why your views are so important.
