ON THE WATER............

As you may know the Round the Island Race (ROI) took place over the weekend in what turned out to be somewhat light conditions. 6 CSC yachts took part but with fickle winds, only Andy Rushworth in 'Marmite' managed to complete the race with a time of 13:47 – leaving just 13 minutes before the cut off time. A big well done to him and his crew (Luke & Becki Ridout and Norman Hack) for persevering to the bitter end - although rumour has it that weight saving fuel provision on board influenced the decision to press on under sail! I understand Andy will be commenting on this later....

Our young members have also been busy. Jack Acton qualified for the Laser U21 Std European's in Poland and Laser U21 Std World's in Split later this year. Rory and Drew Barnes set off on another mammoth road trip pulling a rib and many local laser sailors to Greece where they took in the Greek Nationals as a warm up and training, followed by Laser Radial Euro's this week. Drew will also be off representing GBR squad in Canada mid July for the Radial World Championships. Here at the club sailing activities have continued with a well supported Scow Capers race on Wednesday in quite a strong breeze; result two capsizes and victory for Graham Fairbrass. Scow's were also well represented at the weekend particularly on Saturday when the racing conditions were delightful. Altogether 19 boats were out to compete and enjoy the perfect sunshine and steady breeze. All results on the superb Club2Class System as usual. Don't forget the Dinghy Harbour Cruise and Picnic is on this Sunday (7th July. As a reminder it is open to all dinghies from all fleets and is cruise to Mudeford for fun, food and games on the beach. It was a great success last year with 32 boats taking part. See separate poster in this news letter! Keith Mitchell, Honorary Sailing Secretary
