"What's Happening on the Water"

Last Sunday's "Icicle Series" run by Highcliffe. S. C. was eventually abandoned due to lack of wind. The start was somewhat interesting as some boats were starting to windward and others down wind. Such was the wind direction, of which there was less than a knot. It was nearly twenty minutes before the last boat eventually made the start line! There was a half hour postponement hoping for pressure, none came and the racing was cancelled.

This Saturday is the 5th and 6th race of our "Icebreaker Series" we will be setting another quadrilateral course "C." At present the forecast is for strong winds. A decision will be made on the morning of the race whether to race or not. I would urge all sailors who so far have taken part in this series, all of which have been in testing conditions to consider whether or not they are capable and experienced at this stage. It does put pressure on our escort boats, who have in the last two events have been stretched. I will be on hand on Saturday morning for a safety briefing at 10.45. The start in the harbour is 11.30………… Let's keep safe.

I have arranged with "RS Sailing" to bring to the club three "RS Aero's" for a three day trial for any of our members who may wish to try them out. There will be three rigs available, known as '5', '7' & '9.' Put the dates in your diary. Thursday 23rd May to Saturday 25th May. These dinghies are becoming very popular, and would be a great asset for some of our members who maybe, are looking to move from the rather cramped Laser??

As you know I will not be seeking re-election at the AGM, and I do urge someone out there to give their time for a very rewarding job as "Sailing Secretary"………I will be happy to discuss with anyone considering the nomination to what is required for this important position within the club. So do get in touch.
